I DON'T BELIEVE IN BEING AVERAGE! I have been asked; Who are you? Good question and an somewhat appropriate one. I can understand ones concerns if they are going to spend money for a text book about golf and someone does not have "professional" in their title or does not have a recognizable name. Does it really take having a title of "professional" to know what things are true to achieving success in golf or life? or to be creditable? or to helping others to achieving more than the average? I know that I would do a far superior job than what many of the public school system teachers in California are doing to prepare the youths in today's world and what it takes to be successful. It isn't about taking advantage of other people's weaknesses or having low moral standards or being mediocre or giving half truths. If my teaching pro thought that I had the skill and ability to compete at the top level, that gives me some credibility. It was my choice not to try, and no regrets. There is MUCH more covered in The Golf Informant™ than what you would get from individual lessons and you can do it at your own pace and not have to remember what someone told you because it's ALL Covered in The Golf Informant™, nothing is left out. For me, being professional is not just a word, it's the actions that go along with it. It is work ethics, moral fiber and the ability to see and do things that are right, to always strive to be the best at what you are doing. One will not always be able to out-perform others, but the actions, the attempts and how you handle it are what's important. That is what character is all about! Looking at some of the so called top professional sport figures, do their actions indicate that they are professional? (Being an adulterer or using illegal equipment when it could have been painted to differentiate it from others, forcing yourself onto others because of your ego and thinking everything is owed to you or using drugs or steroids) What is their moral fiber, anyone can say they came from a bad background but life is about choices, it's seeing and acknowledging what is right and wrong. Many of today's sport stars will tell you that they have NO responsibility beyond being a top sports star, that they have no obligation to the fans. They are wrong, many kids look up to their ability and attempt to emulate them. When they hear of a sport star getting away with a wrong, what message is being sent to the kids? The same goes with leaders of politics or business or in any walk of life, it's the same reason we have some of the social problems that are prevalent today, too much tolerance to wrongs. I have always strived to be the best at whatever I was doing, even things I did not like. In management I always taught why things had to be done a certain way instead of just saying it had to be done a certain way. I worked with my people so that they could expand and grow themselves. Isn't that what part of management is, helping others to expand themselves, not just how many dollars you can get in your pockets! I proved in semiconductor manufacturing that if you pay attention to small details you can actually build a far superior product with better yields and reliability. For me, the MIND is the most important possession we have. I believe we should always challenge ourselves; to go beyond the norm. Where do you think all the great discoveries and inventions of the past, present and future come from? Because of my engineering background, I have broken everything down to its smallest denominator to give you a concise operation as well as the physical laws that govern them and how they relate to the body. In addition, one of the features of The Golf Informant™ is that you have explanations for the reasons of mis-hits. The simplest approach is the direct path to the road you want to be on. A better golf game! You can find everything you ever wanted to know about the golf swing and the mental approach, plus, you will learn how to turn your body into a whip when you swing the golf club. I have always been marveled at how the body functions and have always studied it and its actions. (There is one tip in The Golf Informant™ that will give you an extra 30 yards) When I was younger they use to not let me keep throwing at the bottles at the fair because I was deadly with my arm and where to hit the bottles to topple them. It's amazing to me even today, knowing what I know because I studied it and observed the body. I have always broken things down and studied the functions and the natural physical laws to make it happen effortlessly. Golf is no different. There is not any sport that I have participated in that I did not perform better than the average because I always looked at what needed to happen and then learn what the body had to do and then let the body do it. The Golf Informant™ does this for you so that you can see immediate results. When I seriously started to play the golf game in 1972 I had my share of golf slices and hooks with very little control. That is when I searched out a competent teacher and was fortunate to find Gary Plato. I did not stop there though, I knew that to be effective at learning what Gary was teaching me I needed to see and have easily remembered feedback for every shot. That is when I made up my plotting and statistical sheets to see what was going on on the golf course and at the driving range. This history logging allowed me to communicate better with Gary, to facilitate as quick as possible improvement. Now you also can make use of what I had done in the 70's to make rapid improvement in your golf game. My best round of golf to date is a 65 on a par 71 in competition. I have probably as many eagles on par four's as I do on par five's because I know what distance I hit each club in my bag and use target golf. It was not uncommon for me to consistently have 23 to 27 putts per round because I was always close to the pin and have a great understanding of the putting stroke. Think about it for a moment, why would you want a pendulum swing when the putter has a 3° or greater loft? You would have to have absolute perfect placement of the ball in relation to the swing arc of the putter every time. Why give yourself extra strokes when you don't have to. The Putt Thing™ will show you exactly how good or bad your putting stroke is. The Course Caddy™ will show you what areas of your game you need to work on first. The stat sheets will show you what areas of your game you need to develop or work on first. You learn and remember better and quicker when you actually use your tactile sense of writing things down so all the stat sheets are hardcopy and written down by you. Goals, to me, are the best way of achieving success but it is important to realize that goals are structured for adjustments. You never know what obstacles will appear so goals need to be flexible. This is why I have put a Goals section in The Golf Informant™. As well as Goals, there are sections on the Mental side of golf and Visualization ―a very powerful skill to acquire. I spent two and a half years in a Zen Buddhist Monastery because I wanted to learn more about their teachings of always being in the present, no matter what we are doing. There teaching is one of a persons actions, not necessarily their words. What a person says and what a person does is of relevancy, but a persons actions is what determines a person character, and their respect of life. The name they gave me before leaving was 'Shin Shi Zen Gen' which translate to 'Truth Disciple Completely Revealed'. I can trace my desire's for the Truth's from about the age of 10. I did not come from a tight-net family background and made a vow to myself back then, to not have the traits of my parents; because of incidents that happened. As a child I had successes that were void of parent involvement or encouragement but knew back then to apply myself and to ask myself questions. Liberal Psychologist today would most likely call it escaping. For me, it was seeing a bigger picture. I have been fortunate my whole life because of it. Maybe slow at times and not overly intelligent but it has helped me in good and bad times. It did cause problems that I had to overcome in my earlier life but that is part of life, we all should grow as we mature. I have had more than my share of bad times but always got through those because of applying myself and seeing more than what was just in front of me. Before the age of 16, I had achieved being an Eagle Scout with all three palms; about the 5th person in the Golden Empire Council in Sacramento to achieve this. I started early to pay attention to small details because it actually allowed me to see the bigger pictures. This, I believe, is why I have been fortunate. I have been issued six different patents for the companies that I have worked for that they own, as well as a couple for myself. (Electrical and Mechanical) I have never put limits on myself. In 1994 I developed a metalizing process that recycled automotive brake rotors and drums. This process gave the remanufactured rotors and drums a wear factor that was three times greater than OEM as well as better friction co-efficiency that allowed cars to stop in two-thirds the distance with the added benefit of heat dissipation that virtually eliminated brake fade. The business failed because of being under-financed coupled with a very poor choice for a partner. Now I have a new challenge : I have been diagnosed with spinal stenosis in 3 different areas of my spine. They can't see that it was from injuries so they are saying that it must be genetic? ―This has been the cause of my swing problems― The muscles sometimes momentarily lock and then there is pain trying to move them, at other times they jerk rather than function smoothly. My body was doing things to minimize the pains and altering certain aspects of my swing at times. I knew that things were off but I could not see or feel specifics. There was one period I had to put myself into a ball to endure the pain of muscles that stayed flexed tight and would not relax for almost 8 months. (I refuse to use drugs ongoing to deal with pain, I believe the body can heal itself if given the opportunity. The brain built everything in the beginning, so why not.) I am no longer in Silicon Valley so I have had to go to 5 different local PGA teaching professionals in my new area to find one that could help and see. I spent over $800 and did not learn anything from any of them that was causing my swing problems. Four of them wanted to totally change my swing. They ignored the fact that I had good solid fundamentals that I had learned from Gary Plato. One even told me that I should just think about how I used to play and go and do it; that's what I was already trying to do. Just needed a set of eyes to notice what was going on that I could not feel. So I know what some of you have gone through in trying to learn things about the golf swing. Way too many amateurs trying to pass themselves off as "professionals". Partly due to the boon in golf for the past several years. Because of physical pains and nerves not allowing functioning properly, I could not feel everything that I use to or the pain blocked the feel. I am a feel player. So now I have the challenge to rework my game to accommodate the spinal stenosis issues. I refuse to accept that I cannot play to my past level. I will find a professional medical practitioner that is already doing research or knows what course of action needs to be taken to minimize the problems.
